About Krystal

I have always been drawn to the beauty of the past— I was raised by my grandmother who loved watching old movies and Dodgers baseball. She smoked cigarettes all day and drank coffee and loved to play card games. She listened to Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra and made the best Italian food on the planet. Homemade chicken soup hasn’t been the same since she left this world.

I grew up believing that maybe I was born at the wrong time because I loved all the old things and music and books and wanted so badly to travel and see the world… Now I know that I was born at the right time to truly appreciate the old and the new, and someday I would find a way to travel. I found my way to making art later in life after losing my grandmother, my mother and a long term relationship. Art helped me find a new way of expressing myself and feeling my way through different griefs and making it okay to laugh and be silly and find joy again too.

My artwork varies… as I like to explore new mediums and combinations of practice. It has mainly focused on analog collage and mixed media works. Abstract painting, photography, drawing and gel printing have also made its way into my art. As I have created work over the last 8 years I have found that my art explores themes of time, identity, femininity, and the layers of personal and collective history that shape us.

I live in Denver, Colorado and am a Senior City Planner working in Historic Preservation. I have degrees in Urban & Regional Planning and Historic Preservation. I love exploring cities, architecture, travel, cemeteries, art and my 2 cats.
